Kirwa defends at D2 nats

Harding's Daniel Kirwa brought home a second consecutive 10,000 meter title Thursday night, as the first three finishers dipped under 30 minutes on an 80-degree night.
Kirwa topped Brian Medigovich (Adams State), who was second -- again.
Harding has dominated the long race, with its runners winning four of the past six years.
Just for the record, I had Kirwa third and Medigovich first. As I was not in San Angelo to enjoy an 80-degree evening, I'm not sure how it unfolded, but hope someone can fill me in.

  1. Heard Medigovich went for it with 400 to go, but Kirwa just threw down the last 100 easily taking it. The adams boys didn't fall. One is sick, the other just had a freak no show.

  2. I watched the race. It was cool with a bit of a wind blowing during the race. Heat wasn't a factor. At race midpoint, 8 runners were in lead pack. A surge was thrown in at 7K and dropped all but top 4. Other than that one surge, splits were pretty consistent. Sang took the lead with 800m remaining, but Medigovich overtook at around 600m remaining and went for the win. Kirwa sat on him and sprinted past with 100m remaining. Chesoto was a disappointment.

  3. I think Kirwa's "slow" qualifying time threw me. I didn't realize he won by two minutes at Drake! And it sounds like he has plenty of speed.
