Final thoughts about Evansville

Evansville is in the book. Adams State takes three of four titles on a warm day.
The weather appears to have been a factor. I was surprised to see Chico State and Mass.-Lowell well down in the final team standings. Chico's Brett Handa went out hard and faded, and teammate Alan Campos had a forgettable race, after a fine effort at regionals in San Francisco. In addition, I picked Alaska-Anchorage's Marko Cheseto to mix it up with the favorites. He was with the leaders at least through 3 kilometers, but faded to 42nd.
American International's Glarius Rop nearly stole the title. The early leader, he was swept up at the end by a hardcharging Reuben Mwei (Adams State) and Daniel Kirwa (Harding). Look for Kirwa, Rop and fourth-placer Amos Sang (Abilene Christian) to create the race in Louisville next year.
Finally, thanks for reading. From August 1 through the national championship weekend, d2cross had 1,435 unique visitors from nine countries. A special thanks to readers in Sioux Falls, who topped the list of visitors.
Coverage will continue leading up to indoor nationals at Albuquerque, focussing on distance runners. And look for more women's info as I get acquainted with who's who and who's doing what.

  1. Please make sure you cover indoor and outdoor in the distance events. Our level needs more coverage and you do a great job of it. Keep up with the gals and guys from our region. They are sure to make some noise, if not in the DMR, then in the open events and I'd love to see you do more with the track side of things...
