More pre-season questions than usual for D2 men

It's tough to know exactly who might be toeing the line for D2's top teams this fall, as many sports information directors have yet to update their websites. A few have, like Chico State, which does a great job. They're touting a few recruits and transfers, including the Alaska state champ. I know speculation this August centers on whether or not ASC junior Dean Huffer's younger brother (and 3:38 performer) joins Adams State, but I've seen no indications of that.
A late Labor Day means a late start to the season, so there is plenty of time to consider these questions:
  • With their top three gone, does Adams State have the depth to win?
  • Will Western State rebound from a very quiet spring? Or will it finish third in the RMAC, behind a surging Colorado Mines?
  • Has Grand Valley State matured enough to win it all? Or will they be elipsed by regional rivals Southern Indiana?
  • Can Chico State race well out of the Pacific Time Zone?
  • What will happen to Abilene Christian (and Amos Sang)?
  • Can Harding's Daniel Kirwa get back to the winner's circle? Or will it be Crouch, Sang, Rop or an Alaskan?
Next: Questions for the women's field.

  1. Huffer junior ran 3.36 this year not 3.38. And he will we be wearing a Grizzly jersey this year.

  2. This from the Kalgoorlie Miner, 3-01-09 "Nickel West Elite Mile, Craig Huffer and Emma Rilen, each took home $6000 and a gold ingot."

This was a mile road race. Huffer is now a professional in cross country and track as the NCAA considers road racing both. Sorry boys.

  3. Huffer can still compete on the collegiate level if he gives back the money he won as a professional runner.

  4. That is just one race and he won 6k, how much will he have to pay back? Could he have won 30k plus in the past few years? Is that really worth it? Just keep the money and keep running professionally.

  5. Look whether you like or not he is eligible. He is paying every penny back and will be ripping up national meets for Adams State for years to come.

  6. adams last top middle distance recruit hasnt won a national title after two years. Andrew Graham came in with top DII pr's from the 800 to mile and his best finish is what, 2nd or 3rd? three americans beat him in the 1500 in may. I guess Damon figured he needed a professional to handle the middle D guys from Chico, Mines, and Metro.

  7. I didn't realize that qualifying four guys in the steeple chase qualified as being VERY quiet.
